Midjourney has released version 5 of its AI image-synthesis service, which generates photorealistic images that some find eerily perfect. The service is available for alpha testing through Discord. Midjourney v5 has improved image detail since its initial launch in March 2022 and now generates realistic human hands. It works similarly to image synthesizers like Stable Diffusion and DALL-E, using text descriptions or “prompts” to create images. The new version offers a wider stylistic range, improved sensitivity to prompts, less unwanted text, and a 2x increase in image resolution. However, the increased realism may reduce the excitement of generating AI imagery to find a suitable result.
