Google is launching its Bard chatbot in the UK and US. The product lead for Bard, Jack Krawczyk, sees the launch as an “experiment” and a do-or-die moment for Google. Bard is based on Google’s own language model called LaMDA and is capable of answering detailed questions and engaging in conversations. However, its accuracy is not consistent. Google did not disclose the cost of processing a Bard query, but external estimates range from a 10 to a 100-fold increase in costs. Bard has no adverts and no obvious revenue sources.
